August 10, 2026

Welcome to Morgan XC!

We are excited for you to run with us in Fall 2026! Our team focuses on building fitness, having fun, and supporting each other through our core values: Respect, Effort, Fun, and Community.

  • Who: Any student looking to stay healthy, improve running, and have fun.
  • What: Middle school races are 1 ½ miles on grass, gravel, and pavement. Expect about 5 meets against other schools (boys and girls race separately).
  • Where: Daily meets are at the MMS weight room after school. We run to nearby spots like Mt. View Park, CWU, EHS Track, and Reid Park/Craig’s Hill.
  • Training & Activities: Practices include intervals, hills, long/short runs, core strength, and injury prevention—plus game days and our end-of-season Amazing Race!
Key Dates & Practice Details
  • First Practice: Monday, August 31st at 4:00 PM
  • Summer Schedule:
  • Dates: August 31, September 1, and September 2
  • Time: 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Location: Outside the 1st Avenue entrance at Morgan Middle School
  • Regular School Year Practice: Meets right after school in the MMS weight room and ends at 4:00 PM.
  • Season End: Approximately the 3rd week of October.
  • Action Item: Bring your blue slip to Coach on or before the first day of practice.

Cross Country Registration & Season Information

Registration & Clearance Checklist
  • Complete Registration: Finish all steps online via the MMS Registration Page before the first day of practice.
  • Sports Physical: Ensure a current sports physical is on file with the Athletic Department and School Office.
  • Blue Slip: Once fully cleared, turn in your student's blue slip to the coach on or before the first day of practice to participate.
  • Practice Requirement: State rules require athletes to complete at least 7 practices before competing in any meets.
What to Bring & Wear
  • Attire: Shorts, a t-shirt, and a good pair of running shoes for early season. Tip: Add an extra layer as the weather cools down.
  • Gear: A full water bottle for every practice, regardless of the weather.
  • Questions on Shoes? Reach out to the coaching staff anytime for advice!
Multi-Sport Policy (WIAA Rule 17.22.1)
Under state rules, schools cannot offer special privileges (e.g., reduced practice times, late arrivals, early dismissals, or regular missed practices) to accommodate non-school sports activities.

  • Choice Required: While we encourage multi-sport athletes, families must choose between cross country and other sports before the season begins to prevent practice and race conflicts.
Summer Preparation & Goals
  • Summer Running: Completely optional! Running 2–4 times a week (or starting a couple of weeks before practice) helps build endurance. Finding a running buddy makes it even better.
  • No Experience Needed: Athletes coming straight off the couch are fully welcome and will have a great season!
  • Why Join? Have fun, meet new friends, build fitness, and beat your personal best each week!
