No, but you have 5 minutes between classes to move around, and, of course, you have 30 minutes at lunch to eat and socialize with your friends or play outside on nice days.
If your locker doesn't open, find an adult who can help you. If there are no adults handy, go to your next class and report your locker problem to that teacher. He/She should be able to help you out.
Although Morgan can seem like a big, confusing building, after just a few days, you'll know your way around quite easily! There are maps available to help you find your classes the first couple of days, and many of the adults in the building will be in the hallways to help you as well.
No, but your friends and teachers will appreciate it!
Yes! The type of clothing which is appropriate for P.E. will be explained by your P.E. teachers on the first day. Students are to dress down for safety and hygiene reasons. Grades will be reduced for students who elect not to dress-down.
Sports are no longer available to sixth grade students due to budget cuts.
Not the nice ones! But, yes, sometimes they do. If this becomes a problem for you, please let an adult know so they can help you get it stopped!
Only some of us! :) Actually, what some students interpret as mean, is probably the teacher trying to teach you to be responsible without the help of others. Most students get along quite well with all their teachers and enjoy their time at Morgan.
Students often are able to use the telephone to call home for these situations. However, if you are unable to call home you can ask the cafeteria for an emergency lunch or ask your friends to share with you.
Usually, friends stay together even if they are in separate classes. You still live near each other, may have the same lunch, can visit during passing time between classes, and will probably continue to do things together after school.
Definitely! Introduce them to your old friends!
Everyone is nervous, especially the first few days.
The most important thing is to be yourself. Don't try to be someone you're not. Smile and be cooperative.
Usually, it doesn't take long. Many of the new students came from a different elementary school and are just as anxious and willing to make friends as you are.
Not as big as you'd like. In fact, you'll notice that the locker seems to get smaller each day. You should keep only essential school materials in your locker. Olympic size workout bags take up too much space in a locker. Carry a regulation size book bag. If you wear a coat to school, remember to wear it home again so that a collection of coats does not take up needed space.
Yes! However, you can lose your locker if you mistreat it (kicking, etc.) or if you cannot respect your locker neighbor's materials. You probably won't want to do that!
Lunch is 30 minutes long. Most students do not need the entire 30 minutes so when they are finished eating, they visit with their friends in the cafeteria or go outside on nice days.
Morgan has what is called a closed campus, so you may not leave the area during your lunchtime.
Not all students go to lunch at the same time. Your teacher will tell you when it is your class's turn.
Only if you have demonstrated that you cannot behave.
One of the supervisors (teacher, para, administrator, kitchen staff, or custodian) will ask you to clean it up.
Yes! There are several different lines in the cafeteria offing you a wide variety of delicious food. You can put money on your account during lunch time so you don't have to pay every day. Change is not given for checks.
The first few days of school are the worst because new students are not always sure of what to do. Be prepared. Check the menu. Know in advance what you want for lunch. Have your money ready to give to the cashier.
Announcements are made in homeroom every day. Information about clubs and sports are listed in the daily bulletin. Ask your teacher to see a copy if you missed the announcements. You can also see the daily bulletin on the Morgan Web Page.
At the beginning, usually some review work is done. As the year progresses, you will learn new things. Some may be more difficult than others. Your teachers are usually available before and after school to help you. Ask for help. Tutoring in Language Arts and Math are available after school Monday through Thursday from 3-4.
Homework varies from class to class. Use any study time you may have during the school day to keep the amount of homework that actually has to go home with you to a minimum. Don't wait until the last minute to do your assignments. Use your assignment calendar every day.
Classes vary in length.
Students have 5 minutes between classes.
You can always ask any staff member for help. That includes the teachers whose names you know and the teachers whose names you do not know. Counselors and administrators are also always ready to help. If you need help with your locker, the custodians are great.
A student phone is available in the lobby. It is not available during the school day except at lunch and after school, so plan ahead.
No, you have different teachers throughout the day.
Dress for school, not play. Don't wear anything that would be disruptive or inappropriate in school.
Homework requests during student absences may be made at the beginning of the second day of a student's absence. Please make your requests before 10:00 a.m. Thank you!
Notify the office and your teachers. Teachers may give you the work before you go. Otherwise, make arrangements as soon as you return to make up your missing assignments.
School starts at 7:45 a.m. with advisory. School ends at 2:15 p.m.
On Wednesdays and early release days, school ends at 12:35.
