The students are adjusting to the reboot of the cell phone procedures. They still continue to struggle to leave them in their binder and want them on their body. We will continue to work with them and help them meet the expectations.
Just so you have the same information they have, here are the general steps we will take:
1- If a student is on their phone, it will be taken and turned in to the office. If it is their first or second offense, you will get notified, but they can pick it up after school. If it is their third offense, we will ask that you come pick it up. After that, we will ask that the phone not come to school.
2- If a student just has it in their pocket, we will give them a reminder to put it where it belongs. If they take care of that, all is well. If there are repeat reminders required, staff will follow the steps in #1 above.
The goal is not to keep our focus on this, but to get some muscle memory built up so the students are able to navigate their day without their phone alerting them throughout the day.
As always, in an emergency situation, we will allow access to phones and if they need to connect with you, they can just let the staff member know and they will be allowed to step out in the hall to take care of that.
