Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be working closely with our students to make sure we are using our system when they need to leave classes. We use an electronic system, SmartPass, to help monitor their time out of class and be able to keep track use of our spaces. Using this has been a wonderful change in the last few years. It does, however, require that students remember a couple of steps and that is what we will start with first.

Students make a SmartPass to leave class to go to any number of spaces. The system then keeps track of the time out of the class. Students still need to take a hall pass with them and then they need to remember to stop their pass when they return to class. We are hoping to clean up this step first so we understand how much time students are out of class and to see where we can help them maximize their learning time. Once we tackle this component, we will be able to have clean data to help make good decisions about next steps.
