Morgan Middle School Information

8.17.26

let's get started

September 8th will be here soon!

It is hard to believe that we are already getting geared up to kick off another school year! I hope your summer has been wonderfu! The goal of this message is provide some of the key information you may need to help your child (and you) have a great start to the school year!

A few key pieces of information for you:
  • Transportation- If you plan for your child to ride the school bus, please make sure you have arranged for routing prior to the start of the year. This is a task you need to do each year so we don't want you to miss it! Fill out the electronic form found here. If you have any questions, please contact our transportation department at: 509-925-8100 (press 1)
  • Food Services- You can take care of either loading money on your child's lunch account or fill out the paperwork to qualify for Free/Reduced Meals at this link. We will always make sure your child gets fed, but we also want to make sure they don't accumulate charges if at all possible. Morgan Middle School and Ellensburg High School still require that student meals are paid for and we know that is a change for those rolling up from elementary school!
  • School Supplies- If you are hoping to get in on the sales for school supplies, you can find our generic list at this link. There may be some course specific items you will need to provide, but this site provides most of what is needed. You can ignore the information about chromebooks, we will keep those in the building this year! (see below)

Please note... we start our school year on TUESDAY, September 8th, this year. This is the first time in history that Ellensburg is starting on the Tuesday after Labor Day so we will remind you a few times!

If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to reach out so we can help you!

Looking forward to a great year together,
Michelle

Chromebooks

This year, MMS students will NOT be issued their own chromebook to bring back and forth between home and school. The staff has learned that, while the access to instruction and materials is critical, they are able to provide the vast majority of this to students during the school day and there is very little need to have the devices at home. It is our hope that this will provide some great benefits for everyone:
  • reduced screen time,
  • reduced wear and tear on the devices,
  • increased focus when using them in classes, and
  • increased ability to monitor that the use is for learning.

We will have devices available for students to check out as they are needed in the event students need them for homework or if they are going to be out of school for an extended time.

While we continue to teach our students about being a positive digital citizen and the importance of their interactions online, we strongly believe this is going to help keep the focus of the use of these devices as a tool for learning.

If you have specific questions about this change, I am very happy to answer them!

Sincerely,
Michelle

Bulldog Day

Bulldog Day will be Friday, August 28th, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This is a little earlier than we usually have it, but with our change to starting on a Tuesday, we will be working with our staff in the days leading up to Fair/Rodeo so we want to make sure we offer this in advance of that so we aren't trying to compete with the Fair/Rodeo activities!

Bulldog Day is an open house opportunity for you and your child to take care of the little details that help in starting the year off right. During this day, you can:
  • Pick up your child's class schedule (an additional hard copy will be available on the morning of the first day of school),
  • Get locker assignments for 7th and 8th graders (6th graders get them on the 2nd day of school),
  • Update any demographic information in Skyward that may have changed, including emergency contacts,
  • Purchase ASB Cards or Yearbooks,
  • Tour the building and help your child find their classes, and
  • Get your questions answered!

It is a busy day around here, but we will make sure we either have, or get, an answer for what you need!
